a long overdue update

(EDIT: This was a catch-all collection of recent costume photos and events originally posted to my livejournal. Since I ported it over here, it may be a bit redundant.)

As I said in the last quick post, sorry for disappearing the past couple of months! Besides the usual weekday work drudge, I’ve been out of town almost every weekend since March, and add to that trying to finish various costumes and artwork, including the RAT poster which took forever this year.
Speaking of which, they did Beauty and the Beast – I was originally going to be helping make the costumes, but ended up being too busy with the poster to do much. I did do a few simple things, but my mum did the bulk of it – it was quite an undertaking, and the whole production turned out really well.

Now, here’s pics from the various events I’ve done since march…

Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade
I wore Battle Padme – I made new armbands, fixed one of the sleeves, made a new base belt and redid my shinguards. The shinguards still need work – I think I’m going to make a plastic skeleton to put underneath them, but they’re way better than my original ones.
It was quite interesting getting down there – we drove, and it took a loooong time due to various incidents. But the parade was awesome, and the weather was perfect… totally worth it, I hope to do it again next year.

Group picture! Mostly Georgia and Southern Outpost garrisons, I believe…

They set up the stormtroopers in the park and let various rebels pose in the middle… it was hilarious! My camera crapped out towards the end so I missed getting Leia and Vader in there, but here’s Han!

MidSouthCon 2006…
The hotel was horrid – this was my first year staying there and they really screwed over a LOT of people. Add to that the terrible neighborhood and literally NO parking and schedules not working out between me and ash and mel… midsouthcon was kinda blah for me this year. I was going to do the masquerade with Ash, but we ended up not doing it, I started feeling sick sat night… yeah. Not great this year. I only got to walk through the dealer’s room once, too, and didn’t buy a thing! On top of that, the Tigers lost that night šŸ™
But, I dressed Kevin up as Luke – that was so cute! He had a great time. I debuted my silly 70s Leia poncho, my TK, and my new Padme Lake dress.

Me in the TK. Still needs some work. That’s not my helmet I have there, I hadn’t gotten it yet – you can see my helmet in the MTAC pics. I still need to put my belt boxes on and redo some of the straps.

My Lake dress, which I ended up not wearing long due to me getting kinda sick. I didn’t have the hair up exactly right, either.

Nicked this pic from Glenn… late sat night when I started feeling better, I put on slave leia and chase got in his mando again and we wandered around and went to the dance and stuff. that was the best part of the whole con!

Lake Dress Photoshoot
So, the lake dress. I ended up making most of it in about a week. :\ Chase made my necklace, but he says it’s version 1, and he’s going to make another for me when I do version 3 of the dress. I finally got close enough to the hairstyle that I’m happy with it, and I like my underdress ok – but I hate the way the chiffon overdrape turned out. I’m going to tweak the underdress a bit (lower the back – it’s too high), and completely redo the chiffon. I don’t think it’s long enough in the front or the back, and I need to work on the sleeves more, and leave it in the dye longer. It’s almost completely washed out in the sunlight. Anyway, here are the pics we took one weekend –

The back is waaaay too high, as you can see. This is one of the problems I’ve run into working off the dressform so much, it might look right on the dressform, but not on me, I’ve gotten to wear I use it too much – when I redo it I’ve got to put it on myself more often LOL

MTAC
We had a BLAST at MTAC this year. I didn’t have to get a room since Chase lives like 10 minutes away. Gooshy had a room, so we were able to use that to change in. It was awesome. We didn’t do ANY con stuff, just hung around and had fun.

I wore Belle in the morning, and then Yuuko in the afternoon. I ended up not doing the masquerade in Yuuko like I had originally planned on, and I’m glad I didn’t, I had much more fun just hanging out, and on top of that the boning was digging into my waist pretty badly and I wasn’t able to wear it long.

Darth Stitch!! I asked Chase if he wanted to wear Stitch – he said only if we dressed him as Vader. So here it is. LMAO
I had to have something easy to get around in while helping Chase around in Darth Stitch – he wanted me to wear Lum. So there it is. LOL

Sunday we went back up for a little while and I wore the TK. This is my lovely lovely new helmet.

PS – dear jackass at the con – I heard the first time you yelled behind me that I was short. Yes I’m aware of that. Yes I ignored you. You didn’t have to yell the comment over and over again as I walked down the hall. I’m also aware I’m a girl, there was no need to shout that stormtroopers aren’t girls. Did you not take the hint at the beginning that I wasn’t interested in your snide comments? So, bite me. Next time, I’m reporting you to security for harrassment.

Free Comic Book Day
This past weekend we did Free Comic Book day at the Great Escape in Nashville. I wore regular leia most of the day, then changed into slave leia for a few pics. When I was in regular leia, we stood on the sidewalk outside the store and waved a people. It was so much fun! we almost caused a few wrecks…

We walked over to the restaurant where we were going to eat later that day, and there was a TON of people there watch the Kentucky Derby and they went WIIIIIIIILD when we all walked up!! Chase took some pics of the aliens around the restaurant…

So thats it. Next up is Wonderfest at the end of this month, and COSI at the beginning of June.

Annnnnnd a costume update.
I’ve got Mustafar Padme about 60% complete. I may put it on hold though – I want to wear it with Chase when he debuts Vader, and he’s not going to have Vader ready in time for Wonderfest. I’ve got the tunic made, just need to tweak it a little – the embroidery is done on the sleeves, got the pants, boots… need to make the leather straps and the jewelry.
New Leia – haven’t started on it yet, but it won’t take long.
Red Dark Phoenix – I got a new red bodysuit, going to move my dark phoenix pieces from the black suit to the new red one. not much involved there.
New ANH Leia – for COSI, I found the perfect fabric to remake my dress.

And I still have to finish the Vader bodysuit.

So that’s it… i’ll try not to let it be 2 months between posts again
